Worcester woman accused in hit-and-run car accident
Posted In: Auto Accidents, Personal InjuryIt was three o’clock in the morning this past Saturday when a violent collision occurred in the intersection of Highland and Lancaster Streets. According to Worcester police, the car accident involved two drivers: one, a 57-year-old man in a compact car, and the other, a 30-year-old woman behind the wheel of a pick-up truck.
After the crash, he was left in his vehicle with critical injuries. Police said she drove off, fleeing the scene.
This past Monday, she was escorted into Worcester District Court by a police officer, facing charges of leaving the scene of personal injury, operating a motor vehicle causing serious injury and leaving the scene of property damage.
Police apparently arrested the Fruit Street resident early Saturday after they spotted the 1995 Ford F-150 she had allegedly been driving. They noticed recent damage to the vehicle and reportedly matched pieces of parts found at the scene of the accident to her truck.
Law enforcement investigators say the man was driving south on Lancaster in his 2005 Kia Rio before attempting a left turn onto Highland Street. That’s when his car was slammed into by the pick-up headed west on Highland, they said.
Police said traffic lights in the intersection were at that time of night in flash mode: vehicles on Highland had a flashing yellow light and vehicles on Lancaster had a flashing red light.
The crash victim was extricated from his car by Worcester firefighters and then taken by an emergency medical team to a nearby hospital with chest and shoulder injuries.
He was listed in critical but stable condition, the hospital told a newspaper.
The woman’s truck was spotted approximately 20 minutes after the crash, police said. Her truck left a trail of leaked fluids.
At the police station, she was additionally charged with resisting arrest.
Anyone injured in a Worcester car accident caused by a reckless or careless driver should speak with an experienced personal injury attorney before discussing a settlement with an insurance company.
