Posted In: Auto Accidents, Personal InjuryPolice in Worcester are looking for information after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle recently. The incident occurred late one night at the intersection of Chandler and Wellington streets. This hit-and-run is yet another example of some of the serious injuries that can result in pedestrian accidents. When one of these accidents occurs, it will often be investigated to learn how to make the area safer. Pedestrians in the area are well aware of the dangers that can arise if motorists are not paying attention.
Drivers need to understand their obligations when it comes to sharing the roadway with pedestrians. In high-traffic areas, especially near stores or other businesses, it is important that motorists are aware that there may be pedestrian traffic as well. If at a stoplight, be sure that the road is clear of those wishing to cross before proceeding.
At busy intersections, it is important that pedestrians use crosswalks when they are attempting to cross the street. These are the locations where motorists are most likely to expect to see people in the road. Pedestrians may also try to make eye contact with the drivers of vehicles nearby, so that the drivers are aware of their presence and understand that the pedestrian has the right-of-way.
Pedestrian accidents will often result in injuries that require extensive medical attention. Those injured in these accidents may be eligible for compensation for their injuries. Speaking to a personal injury attorney can help these individuals learn more about the potential options that are available.
